Musée Rodin

Among France’s universally celebrated artists from the late 19th century, August Rodin, is one of few sculptors who presented a large collection of magnificent and unique works housed in Musée Rodin (Official website), located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Each sculpture presents an emotion and a reality specially between men and women. It is not easy to put life in a stone made sculpture but Rodin succeeded in doing so and to this day marvels visitors from all around the world.

Musée Rodin is a monographic museum only dedicated to Rodin’s collections, which was once an elegant 18th century hotel (Hôtel Biron) where the artist stayed and had his workshop. Part of his works can also be found in his home town in Meudon, where he lived, Villa des Brillants. In his will he donated his entire works of sculpture to the French government under the condition that the hotel would be converted into a museum presenting his creations. The museum is open through the week apart from Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Some museums are closed on national holidays.
This beautiful museum features mainly the luxury assembly of sculptures within the building and in its lavish outdoor garden, as well as drawings, sketches, paintings, photographs and some personal collections of other well known artists by Rodin. Some of the famous and most treasured works by Rodin are: The Thinker, Fugit Amor, The Kiss, Thought and The Gates of Hell. His collection is also accompanied by some of his brilliant student’s works, Camille Claudel.
