The Champs-Élysées
The Champs-Élysées, the elite avenue, combines tourism, fashion, fame, business and politics. It is 1.9 kilometer long and is a legendary street known to the world, starting from Place de Concorde (located between Jardin des Tuileries and The Champs-Élysées) stretching up to the Arc de Triomphe (centered in the Place Charles de Gaulle Etoile). Its history dates back to 1616 when Marie de Medicis chose to design a path east from the Tuleries lined with trees and today it has become the most famous street in the world that appears in many journals, cinema movies and romantic stories. The street was redesigned and extended several times by different personages over the years and it was named “Champs-Élysées” after a Greek mythology “Elusia” meaning a resting place for heroes.
