Parc Zoologique de Vincennes – the national zoo of Paris
–The Parc Zoologique de Vincennes also known as the National Zoo of Paris is situated near the 12th arrondissement close by the Bois de Vincennes. The innovative architectural concept of the zoo was based on Hagenbeck’s zoo in Hamburg. The core attraction of the park is the artificial Rock, “Le Grande Rocher”, of 67 meters.
Over 1400 animals live within the boundaries of the zoo and children can eagerly watch them close by. The zoo’s main objective is not only to display animals but to educate the public and conserve, since many species are endangered and threatened to be vanished from the earth. Visitors will be able to see elephants, flamingos, giraffe, goats, sheep, vultures, night lemurs, bats, deer, monkeys, rhino, gibbons and lions are few of the animals to mention the zoo holds.

The Parc Zoologique de Vincennes is now going through a major renovation and it will feature a gorge enterance followed by 6 biozones from different levels (“le zoo à étages”), where animals representing their wild habitats will be displayed. The 6 biozones will include European mountains, African rainforest, African savannah, the spiny forest of Madagascar, a South American wetland, and Patagonia. The landmark “Le Grande Rocher” will house a panorama restaurant, movies and conferences.
The Parc Zoologique de Vincennes is open from 9am to 5pm in the winter season and 6pm in the summer season, except on Sunday it closes 30 minutes later.
